Karachi (HRNW): Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that the long-standing issue of pension arrears for retired employees of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is being addressed as part of the city’s ongoing administrative reforms.
A cheque distribution ceremony was held at the KMC Head Office, where Mayor Murtaza Wahab handed over pension arrears cheques to retired municipal employees. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, Municipal Commissioner Abrar Jaffar, and other senior officials were also present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said the current city administration inherited numerous financial challenges but has made resolving the problems of retired employees a top priority.
He stated that more than Rs380 million in pension arrears was being distributed among retired employees during the ceremony.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab further revealed that when the present administration assumed office, nearly Rs11 billion in outstanding liabilities remained unpaid. He said that over Rs6 billion of those dues have now been cleared.
He added that the city government’s people-centric policies have enabled the administration to fulfill its financial commitments to employees, describing the initiative as part of the governance vision promoted by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
