New York, United States (HRNW) — UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell has described the situation for children in the Middle East as “catastrophic.” Since the current escalation began on February 28, the agency has verified that 1,100 children have been killed or injured across the region. With schools closed and hospitals damaged by “unrelenting bombardment,” UNICEF emphasized that nothing justifies the maiming of children or the destruction of essential services. The agency is calling for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of humanitarian corridors to provide medical supplies to wounded minors.
