International Day of Zero Waste: Sindh CM Urges Action Against Food Wastage

KARACHI (HRNW) – In his message on the International Day of Zero Waste, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized that preventing food waste is a collective responsibility. He highlighted the need for a shift in public behavior to build a sustainable and waste-free society.

Global Concern and Household Responsibility

Syed Murad Ali Shah pointed out alarming global statistics, noting:

  • One billion tons of food is wasted globally every year, which is a serious cause for concern.

  • Approximately 60% of food waste occurs within households.

  • He asserted that the journey toward “Zero Waste” begins at home and specifically from our own plates.

Call for Responsibility and Sustainable Systems

The Chief Minister urged the public to demonstrate responsibility in food consumption, stating that a sustainable and circular food system is the need of the hour. Key points from his appeal included:

  • Supporting the Needy: Instead of discarding surplus food, citizens should ensure it reaches those in need.

  • Corporate Accountability: Businesses and the hospitality sector must set clear targets to reduce food wastage.

  • Environmental Impact: Reducing waste is directly linked to environmental protection and resource conservation.

Government Commitment

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the Sindh Government is committed to promoting zero-waste policies and sustainable development. He concluded his message by calling upon all citizens to play their part in laying the foundation for a clean, green, and sustainable Sindh.
