Washington (HRNW)- US Vice President JD Vance has said that keeping oil and gas prices low for American consumers is the United States’ top priority during the ongoing conflict with Iran, while preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons is the second priority.
According to Anadolu, Vance said in an interview with Fox News that oil prices are now significantly lower than they were during the early stages of the conflict and that the US administration is working to keep energy prices under control.
The Vice President said rising oil and gas prices could create difficulties for American households and put additional pressure on the US economy. He emphasized that maintaining affordable energy prices is therefore Washington’s immediate priority.
Vance said the second major objective is to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. He explained that the United States is simultaneously focused on maintaining energy affordability and preventing Iran from advancing toward nuclear weapons capabilities.
His comments come as the global energy market faces continued uncertainty amid tensions between the United States and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining particularly important to global oil and gas supplies.
Oil prices experienced significant fluctuations during the early stages of the conflict, although Vance said they have since declined considerably from their initial highs.
Energy prices are also politically significant in the United States because higher gasoline and household energy costs directly affect American consumers.
Preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons has long been a major US foreign policy objective, and Vance’s latest remarks highlight Washington’s simultaneous focus on energy prices and Iran’s nuclear program during the current conflict.
