Karachi (HRNW): Consolidating the vision of a pollution-free, green, and sustainable metropolis, the Sindh Police, in collaboration with Community Policing Karachi, has officially launched a major tree-plantation drive. Additional Inspector General (Addl. IG) of Police Karachi, Azad Khan, formally inaugurated the campaign.
The 5th Environmental Project by Community Policing Karachi
The metropolitan police chief visited the Shahid Hayat Police Training College in Saeedabad, where he initiated the drive by planting a sapling within the facility’s premises. This ecological intervention marks the 5th consecutive environment-centric project under the broader “Green Karachi Campaign” spearheaded by Community Policing Karachi. For this specific phase, an immediate operational target of planting 500 saplings has been established to transform the police training facility into an eco-friendly zone.
Environmental Safety Imprinted into Civil Policing: Azad Khan
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Additional IG Azad Khan highly commended the dedicated social efforts of Community Policing Karachi. He emphasized that the modern scope of public service extends beyond conventional law enforcement:
“For the Sindh Police, protecting the lives and property of our citizens is our primary duty, but protecting the environment they breathe in is an equally vital priority. In an era where installing CCTV cameras is mandatory to secure the streets, implementing eco-friendly measures to tackle climate change and rising temperatures is the ultimate need of the hour.”
A Solid Step Toward a Sustainable Urban Ecosystem
Senior officials present at the event stated that the extensive plantation drive is an essential tactical step toward mitigating urban heat-island effects, improving air quality indices, and ensuring a sustainable environmental future for oncoming generations. The ceremony concluded with a renewed pledge by both the Sindh Police and Community Policing Karachi to systematically restore the green cover of the provincial capital.
