Washington – United States (HRNW)The United Nations has issued a warning over the growing risk of a humanitarian and food crisis in Gaza. While a recent UN report indicates that no part of Gaza is officially classified as famine-stricken following the October ceasefire, agencies caution that the situation remains extremely fragile. Without immediate and large-scale aid, food insecurity could rapidly worsen.

UN agencies, including FAO, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO, highlighted that 77% of Gaza’s population continues to experience severe food insecurity. This includes more than 100,000 children and 37,000 pregnant or breastfeeding women, who face a high risk of malnutrition by April if assistance does not increase.

Northern Gaza, Gaza Governorate, Deir al-Balah, and Khan Yunis have been classified at emergency level (IPC Phase 4), while Gaza Governorate has been downgraded slightly below famine level. Despite improvements in food, animal feed, and basic supply deliveries after the ceasefire, most families still face acute shortages. Over 730,000 people remain displaced, residing in temporary shelters and relying entirely on humanitarian aid.
