Mirpurkhas (HRNW)- A seminar was organized by the Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP) at a local hall on the occasion of World Environment Day. Addressing the seminar, Commissioner Mirpurkhas Shahmeer Khan Bhutto said that protecting the environment is not a one-day task but a responsibility that must be fulfilled at every moment. He urged people to refrain from throwing garbage on roads, streets, in neighborhoods and public places, and encouraged the use of cloth bags instead of plastic bags. He said that climate change is a reality, resulting in an increase in extreme heat, heatwaves, floods and other environmental problems. He stressed the need to take effective measures to protect forests and water resources, as well as to safeguard land and air from pollution. The Commissioner said that women can also play an important role in environmental protection and the betterment of society. An educated woman can transform the life of an entire family; therefore, it is essential to promote women’s education and awareness. On the occasion, CSSP District Manager Muhammad Bakhsh Kapri said that CSSP provides skill-development training to children to help them become self-reliant. The organization is also raising awareness about the basic rights of children, women and men. Mayor Abdul Rauf Ghori said that addressing the impacts of climate change must begin at home and that every individual should play their role in protecting the environment. A panel discussion was also held during the seminar on the impacts and challenges of climate change and ways to prevent and address them. The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency distributed cloth bags among the participants to discourage the use of plastic bags. Climate experts Gharam Baloch and Nawaz Kumbhar, along with Ali Muhammad Rind and Shahid Rahim of the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency, Rafiq Laghari, and others also addressed the gathering. The event was hosted by Roshan Alam and Makhdoom Tahira Ejaz, while Dr. Abdul Wahid Khasikhheli delivered the vote of thanks. At the beginning of the ceremony, Commissioner Mirpurkhas Shahmeer Khan Bhutto was presented with a shield. Children delivered speeches and presented a tableau on environmental issues, which was appreciated by the participants. The speakers emphasized collective efforts for environmental protection, plantation, the use of clean water, and measures to cope with the impacts of climate change.
