Quetta (HRNW): A policy dialogue on climate security was held in Quetta under the joint initiative of UNDP Pakistan, the Government of Balochistan, and the University of Balochistan, with support from the German Embassy Islamabad.
Titled “Rights-Based Climate Security in Balochistan: From Local Evidence to Policy Action,” the dialogue emphasized that climate security is not only an environmental issue but also a matter of people, rights, livelihoods, and trust.
The event brought together senior provincial officials, academia, civil society members, youth, environmental experts, and community representatives from Gwadar and other areas.
Participants discussed how climate change pressures are affecting livelihoods, access to basic services, and community resilience across Balochistan.
The dialogue highlighted the need for gender-responsive service delivery, effective grievance redress mechanisms, and stronger institutions to protect vulnerable communities and promote locally driven climate action.
