Jerusalem (HRNW): Former Israeli Defense Minister and leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, Avigdor Liberman, has sharply criticized the Israeli government and U.S. policy, saying that Iran has shown no willingness to retreat from its key strategic positions.
According to a report published by The Jerusalem Post, Liberman stated that “the Iranians are not prepared to back down for even a moment—not from their nuclear program, not from the Strait of Hormuz issue, and not from their support for allied groups in the region.”
Liberman claimed that Iran is using the current situation to buy time, while Israel is gradually losing its strategic independence.
He also criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, saying:
“It is unacceptable for Trump to declare that we will not attack Iran while the whole world makes decisions on our behalf. We have become a ‘banana republic.'”
The former defense minister further accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to take an effective and independent stance regarding Iran- and Lebanon-related issues, arguing that Israel’s ability to make sovereign strategic decisions has been weakened.
The statements reflect Liberman’s personal views as reported by The Jerusalem Post. At the time of publication, there had been no immediate official response from the Israeli government or the U.S. administration regarding his remarks.
