The World Health Organization marked World Patient Safety Day 2026 on 17 September with a focus on making healthcare for people with noncommunicable diseases safer.
WHO’s campaign highlights the need to reduce avoidable harm while improving the quality and safety of care for conditions that require long-term treatment and monitoring.
The agency says patient safety requires action by governments, health workers, healthcare institutions and communities, with particular attention to preventing avoidable errors and strengthening health systems.
The 2026 observance comes as countries face increasing demand for healthcare linked to chronic diseases and other long-term health conditions.
