Geneva, Switzerland (HRNW): The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expanded its humanitarian operations in several conflict-affected regions, responding to worsening civilian needs in Sudan, Ukraine, Venezuela, and other areas impacted by armed conflict and natural disasters. In its latest operational updates, the ICRC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians, supporting healthcare systems, and promoting compliance with international humanitarian law.
The humanitarian organization recently announced emergency assistance for more than 42,000 people in Al Obeid, Sudan, where escalating hostilities have disrupted access to food, healthcare, safe water, and other essential services. The ICRC is working with national partners to deliver food assistance and humanitarian relief to communities facing prolonged conflict and displacement.
In Europe, ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric concluded a high-level visit to the Russian Federation, where discussions focused on protecting civilians, ensuring respect for international humanitarian law, and securing humanitarian access to prisoners of war affected by the Russia–Ukraine conflict. The organization reiterated that all parties to armed conflicts must uphold their obligations under the Geneva Conventions.
The ICRC has also mobilized emergency support following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, assisting the Venezuelan Red Cross with emergency medical services, relief supplies, and humanitarian coordination for affected communities.
