New Delhi, India (HRNW): Amnesty International has released a new digital investigation documenting what it describes as unlawful and deadly police force against protesters in India, calling for accountability after demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in New Delhi. The investigation was released in August 2026.
Amnesty said the investigation examined the police response to the “Chalo Sansad” march, which took place approximately one month before the organization’s latest findings. According to Amnesty, police used excessive force against peaceful protesters, while no Delhi police officer had been held accountable at the time of publication.
The organization used digital investigation methods to examine available photographs, videos and other information concerning the police response.
Amnesty International is calling for an independent investigation into allegations of unlawful force and for authorities to ensure that victims have access to effective remedies.
The organization stressed that peaceful assembly is a fundamental human right and that law-enforcement officials must follow international standards governing the use of force.
The investigation comes amid broader concerns about civic space, freedom of assembly and accountability for police conduct in India.
