Karachi (HRNW): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Sajjad Ali Soomro launched a strong criticism of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) during proceedings of the Sindh Assembly, arguing that the people of Karachi, Sindh and Pakistan had voted for Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi and that, according to the public mandate, Imran Khan’s government should have been formed.
Soomro alleged that a government imposed through Form 47 was forced upon the people and said that decisions concerning the creation of new provinces should not be made without the consent of the people.
He maintained that the authority to decide whether new provinces should be created rests with the people of Karachi, Sindh and Pakistan. He said the future of the country should be determined according to the public mandate and the will of the people.
Criticizing PPP and MQM, the PTI lawmaker said both parties had remained in power for decades and questioned their record of governance in Karachi and Sindh. He alleged that Karachi had been pushed towards deterioration, while Sindh had suffered from poor governance, corruption and deprivation.
Soomro further alleged that politics was now being conducted in the name of new provinces in a manner that could create divisions among the people of Sindh.
He called on the political leadership to answer for its decades-long record in government rather than attempting to divide the public.
“Do not divide the people of Sindh—give them answers. Give Karachi answers, give Lyari answers, and give the entire Sindh answers,” he said.
The PTI MPA maintained that decisions about the future of Sindh and the country should not be taken without considering the mandate and wishes of the people.
Human Rights Perspective
Debates over administrative units, provincial boundaries and political mandates involve fundamental questions of democratic representation, political participation and the right of citizens to have their voices reflected in governance. Such matters should be addressed through constitutional and democratic processes, dialogue and respect for differing political views.
