Inflation Returns to Double Digits in Pakistan, Annual Rate Reaches 11.15% in August

Karachi (HRNW): Inflation in Pakistan has once again entered double-digit territory, with the annual inflation rate reaching 11.15% in August, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The inflation rate stood at 9.2% in July.

According to the PBS, the average inflation rate from July to August stood at 10.17%, while inflation increased by 1.19% on a month-on-month basis in August.

The latest figures show significant increases in the prices of several essential food items. Onion prices rose by 46%, while egg prices increased by 11.51% during the month.

Similarly, potato prices increased by 6.82%, while vegetable prices rose by 5.50%.

According to the statistics, wheat became 5.25% more expensive, while the price of chana dal increased by 4.77%. Meanwhile, besan prices rose by 3.74%, and flour became more than 2% more expensive.

The latest increase in inflation is expected to place additional pressure on household budgets and the cost of daily necessities, particularly for low- and middle-income families.
