Geneva, Switzerland (HRNW): The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), together with several international and regional human rights organizations, has called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to extend independent investigations into the deteriorating human rights situation in South Sudan. The organizations urged UN Member States to maintain international monitoring and accountability mechanisms amid concerns over ongoing instability and the risk of further human rights violations.
In a joint advocacy initiative presented ahead of the Human Rights Council’s deliberations, the ICJ emphasized that continued international oversight remains essential to documenting alleged human rights violations, preserving evidence, and supporting accountability efforts.
