JHELUM (HRNW) – In a shocking display of elite arrogance and lawlessness in the Jhelum district of Punjab, an influential individual, Ghulam Rasool Rind, alongside his son and gas station workers, brutally assaulted three minor sisters and their father. The violent incident was sparked by the children simply using the station’s washbasin to rinse their hands.
The harrowing details of the incident have ignited cross-country condemnation:
Ruthless Attack on Toddlers and Their Father
-
The Alleged Offense: A low-income citizen stopped at a petrol station with his three young daughters, where the girls washed their hands. Enraged by this harmless act, the influential Ghulam Rasool Rind lost his temper and began beating the young children.
-
Ages of the Victims: The sisters subjected to this merciless beating are incredibly young; one is aged 7, the second is 5, and the youngest is a toddler of just 3 years old.
-
Father Severely Thrashed: Witnessing his daughters crying and being publicly assaulted, the helpless father rushed to protect them. In response, the petrol pump staff and the primary suspect’s henchmen brutally turned on the citizen, leaving him severely bloodied and bruised.
Elite Intimidation and Total Disregard for the Law
-
Threats to Law Enforcement: Upon receiving emergency calls, local police arrived at the scene and requested to secure the petrol station’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. However, defying state authority, Ghulam Rasool Rind’s son openly threatened the responding officers with dire consequences.
-
Political Intervention: While the officers attempted to proceed with standard protocols, an influential phone call from “higher-up” quarters bypassed state machinery, forcing the police to withdraw from the crime scene immediately.
-
Denial of Legal Action: The victimized family is running from pillar to post to seek protection, but the local police station is flatly refusing to register a First Information Report (FIR) due to intense pressure from the influential suspects.
Direct Challenge to Punjab Chief Minister’s “Red Line” Policy
Following confirmation that the incident occurred within the territorial boundaries of Punjab, civil society and child protection advocates are directly confronting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The public is strongly questioning whether the protection of these innocent minor girls falls within her heavily structural “red line” governance policy.
Human rights organizations and activists have issued an urgent appeal to the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police and the District Police Officer (DPO) Jhelum to break this chain of elite impunity, secure the CCTV footage before it is destroyed, arrest Ghulam Rasool Rind, and ensure absolute justice for this marginalized family.
