Washington (HRNW)- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has informed foreign ministers from several allied countries that Washington does not currently expect to launch further military strikes against Iran, with the US instead planning to increase pressure on Tehran through economic, diplomatic and other measures.
According to Reuters, citing US officials, Rubio outlined the current US strategy during recent contacts with allied foreign ministers. The shift comes after months of heightened tensions and military confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
The US administration is seeking to tighten economic pressure on Iran, particularly targeting its financial activities, oil trade and other sources of revenue. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also announced additional sanctions and economic measures against Tehran.
However, US Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth has said Washington has not ruled out future military action and could strike Iran again if deemed necessary.
The latest policy indicates a temporary preference for economic and diplomatic pressure rather than immediate military strikes, rather than a permanent end to the possibility of military action. Meanwhile, Iran continues to face challenges involving oil exports, currency depreciation and international financial transactions.
