Washington (HRNW): The administration of US President Donald Trump has begun temporarily postponing or rescheduling visa interviews at US embassies and consulates around the world.
According to the US Department of State, the changes are linked to a global training initiative for consular officers. The department said visa-service schedules will be adjusted in line with the training programme, but no specific end date has been announced.
US officials said the training is intended to improve the assessment of applicants who may potentially become dependent on US government benefits in the future, while ensuring that visa applications receive a comprehensive and consistent review.
According to the Financial Times, several immigrant visa applicants have received emails from US embassies and consulates informing them that their scheduled interviews are being rescheduled and that they will be notified later about new appointment dates.
