Washington (HRNW): US President Donald Trump has expressed support for banning the implementation of Sharia law in the United States.
In an interview with US media, Trump said he would support measures to prohibit Sharia law in America.
The US president said there should be only one legal system in the United States. He claimed that Sharia law exists in some areas and said that wherever it is found, it should be eliminated.
Trump further said that in some parts of London and Paris, Islamic law has, in his view, developed into a different form of lifestyle.
Human Rights Angle
HRNW notes that laws in any country are enforced under its constitution and legal framework. At the same time, the fundamental rights of religious and cultural communities—including freedom of religion, equal treatment and protection against discrimination—should be safeguarded.
Public policy should uphold the rule of law while ensuring that individuals are not collectively targeted because of their religious identity or beliefs.
