Karachi (HRNW) — Two women journalists, Farwa Askari and Alifia Sohail, who were recently detained in Karachi, have been honorably released following swift intervention by the Human Rights Council of Pakistan, Karachi Division.
The Council, led by Preet Jaman Maheshwari, along with Shaa’a Anbi, Bhavon Maheshwari, and other members, visited the Sohail Line Police Station and met with the SHO and the Women Police Officer to discuss the case in detail. During the meeting, the Council emphasized that journalists are a vital pillar of the country, and their detention caused widespread concern.
Following the Council’s appeal and effective strategy, police officials responded positively, ensuring the safe release of both journalists. The journalists returned home with full respect and dignity.
The Human Rights Council of Pakistan emphasized that it will continue to advocate for journalists’ rights, freedom of expression, and human dignity on every platform.
