AMMAN, JORDAN (HRNW) — UNICEF has warned that renewed fighting across Yemen has pushed more than 12 million children deeper into crisis, with over 57,000 children displaced in just two weeks as violence disrupts healthcare, education and family life.
UNICEF said more than 104,000 people, including the 57,000 children, have been displaced since the latest escalation began in early September.
The agency reported that at least nine children have been killed and 12 injured since September 3, while three other children were reported missing following an attack on a road linking Yemen’s western coast with Aden.
The fighting has affected several areas, including western Taiz, southern Hudaydah and Marib, forcing families to flee and making access to essential services increasingly difficult.
UNICEF said 26 UNICEF-supported health facilities have experienced service disruptions during the latest escalation.
Education has also been severely affected, with 243 schools either closed or suspending learning, disrupting education for more than 137,000 students.
The organization warned that children displaced by renewed violence face additional risks, including separation from families, interrupted schooling, limited healthcare and worsening psychological distress.
UNICEF is urging all parties to protect children and civilian infrastructure and to ensure humanitarian organizations can safely reach affected communities.
The renewed displacement adds to Yemen’s long-running humanitarian emergency, where years of conflict have already weakened healthcare, education and other essential services.
UNICEF said children need protection from violence and uninterrupted access to lifesaving services as the humanitarian situation deteriorates.
