Latakia (HRNW)- Syria’s Chief of General Staff, Major General Ali al-Nassan, visited the Khmeimim Air Base in western Latakia province and held meetings with Russian military commanders stationed at the facility.
Al-Nassan was accompanied during the visit by Ground Forces Commander General Asim Hawari, Brigadier General Muhammad al-Saud, and the commander of the Syrian Air Force.
The visit included discussions with Russian military officials at the base, although details of the talks were not disclosed.
The visit comes approximately one month after Damascus and Moscow announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at reorganizing Russia’s military presence along Syria’s Mediterranean coast.
The agreement covers arrangements related to the Khmeimim Air Base and the Russian facility at the port of Tartus, highlighting the continuing military and strategic relationship between Syria and Russia.
