The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is scaling up its emergency response in Yemen as renewed fighting along the country’s western coast forces thousands of families from their homes.
WFP says it has already provided food assistance to 45,000 people affected by the latest displacement and is preparing to support an additional 1.5 million people if the conflict intensifies.
The agency warned that its ability to respond rapidly is being challenged by critically low funding for its Yemen operations. Humanitarian needs are increasing at a time when displacement and food insecurity are already placing severe pressure on vulnerable families.
WFP says early assistance is essential to prevent the latest escalation from producing a much larger humanitarian crisis.
