Mirpur, Azad Kashmir (HRNW)- According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged victorious in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, securing 9 of the 13 contested seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won 4 seats.
According to HRNW News, polling was held in 13 constituencies across the Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber districts of Mirpur Division. Voting began at 8:00 a.m. and continued until 6:00 p.m. after the Chief Election Commissioner extended polling by one hour. Special security arrangements were put in place to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
According to the unofficial results, PML-N candidates won LA-1 Mirpur-1, LA-4 Mirpur-4, LA-5 Bhimber-1, LA-7 Bhimber-3, LA-9 Kotli-2, LA-11 Kotli-4, LA-12 Kotli-5, and LA-13 Kotli-6, while PPP secured victories in LA-2 Mirpur-2, LA-3 Mirpur-3, LA-8 Kotli-1, and LA-10 Kotli-3. The result for LA-6 Bhimber-2 remained incomplete, with PML-N’s Chaudhry Muhammad Razaq leading after results from 100 of 195 polling stations.
Following the announcement of the unofficial results, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on social media platform X that the people of Mirpur had reaffirmed their support for PML-N and its leadership. She also expressed confidence that voters in Muzaffarabad would support the party in the next phase of polling.
Reports also indicated that voter turnout was lower than in the previous AJK elections, with fewer voters participating in the polling process.
