US Treasury Secretary Warns Iran of Unprecedented Economic Isolation, New Sanctions Expected Next Week

Washington (HRNW)- US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned Iran of severe economic pressure and unprecedented isolation from the global economy, saying new sanctions and other economic measures could be announced next week.

In an interview with conservative television network Newsmax, Bessent said Iran would face an economic isolation on a scale the world had not previously seen.

According to the Treasury Secretary, the new US strategy could include a range of economic measures aimed at further restricting Iran’s integration into the global economy. He indicated that Washington may announce additional measures next week to increase pressure on Tehran.

Bessent also referred to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, saying that continued disruption of the waterway would affect the movement of goods through Iranian ports and could prevent maritime traffic from entering or leaving.

His remarks indicate that the United States could intensify economic pressure on Iran alongside its broader military and diplomatic measures. Potential sanctions could target Iran’s trade, revenues and access to the international financial system.

The Strait of Hormuz is particularly important to Iran because several major ports and a significant portion of the country’s energy trade are connected to the vital maritime route. Prolonged disruption could affect not only Iran’s economy but also global energy markets and international trade.

Bessent’s statement comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, with developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continuing to attract international attention.

If additional US economic measures are announced next week, they could place further pressure on Iran’s economy while potentially affecting global markets, oil prices and regional trade.
