UN Appeals for Continued Support for Afghan Women as Aid Funding Crisis Deepens

Kabul, Afghanistan (HRNW) – The United Nations is urging international donors not to reduce funding for programmes supporting Afghan women and girls as humanitarian financing shortages threaten women’s organizations across Afghanistan. The UN has warned that more than half of surveyed women’s organizations could face closure within a year, while the $1.7 billion UN humanitarian appeal for Afghanistan is only around 25 percent funded. UN officials say continued international support is essential for protecting basic rights and maintaining critical services.
