The World Health Organization says the Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has expanded further, with two additional health zones now affected.
According to WHO’s latest disease outbreak update, the Bulu health zone in Sud-Ubangi Province and Dungu health zone in Haut-Uélé Province, near the border with South Sudan, have reported infections. The expansion comes as health authorities and partners continue surveillance, contact tracing and response activities.
WHO has warned that ongoing insecurity and population movement are complicating efforts to contain the outbreak. The UN has also called for humanitarian access as fighting and violence in parts of eastern DRC force people from displacement sites.
