UNESCO Reports Devastating Damage to Ancient World Heritage Sites in Iran

Paris, France (HRNW)UNESCO Director Lazare Eloundou Assomo expressed profound dismay today following reports of damage to several of the world’s most significant cultural treasures. Conflict-related blasts have shattered the iconic Hall of Mirrors at Tehran’s Golestan Palace, a 14th-century World Heritage site. Additionally, the 17th-century Chehel Sotoun Palace and the 1,000-year-old Jameh Mosque in Isfahan have suffered structural damage. UNESCO confirmed it had provided geographical coordinates of all protected sites to all warring parties, reiterating that the destruction of such “civilizational foundations” is a loss for all of humanity.
