Havana, Cuba (HRNW)- On 6 April 2026, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cuba announced the launch of a comprehensive emergency response plan following a major collapse of the national power grid.
The UN is working closely with Cuban authorities and humanitarian partners to address urgent needs, including electricity restoration, healthcare continuity, and access to essential services.
The crisis has raised serious human rights concerns, particularly regarding access to healthcare, clean water, and basic living conditions. The UN emphasized the need for rapid international cooperation to mitigate the humanitarian impact and protect vulnerable populations.
