Surabaya, Indonesia (HRNW)- A passenger vessel, Virgo Transport 8, has gone missing in the Java Sea while sailing from Surabaya to Banjarmasin, Indonesian authorities said.
The vessel was carrying 243 people when contact was lost on Saturday amid adverse weather conditions. Its last known location was approximately 148 kilometers from Banjarmasin.
Indonesian authorities have launched a search and rescue operation to locate the missing vessel and passengers. Initial reports did not confirm any fatalities.
According to a recent update, approximately 103 people have been rescued, although the overall situation remains uncertain as rescue teams continue their efforts.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as search and rescue operations progress.
