New York, United States (HRNW)- The United Nations Disarmament Commission formally opened its 2026 session on 6 April 2026 at UN Headquarters in New York, focusing on critical global security challenges including nuclear disarmament and international peace frameworks.
Delegates from member states emphasized the urgent need to revive multilateral dialogue amid rising geopolitical tensions and ongoing conflicts. However, procedural disagreements led to the temporary suspension of the session shortly after opening, highlighting divisions among countries on disarmament priorities.
The Commission is expected to resume discussions later, with strong calls from developing nations to ensure equitable global security and prevent an arms race escalation.
