Geneva (HRNW) — A report presented to the United Nations Human Rights Council has raised serious concerns about the human rights situation in Iran following recent protests earlier this year.
According to the UN Special Rapporteur, authorities allegedly responded to demonstrations with excessive force, mass arrests, and restrictions on internet access. The report also noted that families of detainees and victims often face pressure and intimidation, making it difficult for them to report abuses.
UN experts urged Iranian authorities to release individuals detained for peaceful protest, guarantee fair trials, and allow international human rights monitors access to the country.
