Sudan is an “Atrocities Laboratory,” UN Aid Chief Tells Berlin Conference

Berlin, Germany (HRNW) – At the third International Conference for Sudan on April 15, 2026, UN Humanitarian Affairs Chief Tom Fletcher described the country as an “atrocities laboratory.” As a fourth year of warfare begins, global leaders pledged over $1 billion to address the deepening crisis. Fletcher cited the denial of food, sexual violence, and the targeting of schools and hospitals as systematic weapons of war. The UN is currently seeking $2.2 billion to reach 14 million people, emphasizing the urgent need to keep the Adre border crossing from Chad open for life-saving aid.
