UN Inquiry Says Deportation of Ukrainian Children May Be a Crime Against Humanity

Geneva (HRNW) — A report by a UN investigative body examining the war in Ukraine concluded that the transfer of Ukrainian children into Russia was systematic and organized at high levels of government.

Investigators found evidence that children were moved from occupied areas into Russian institutions or foster families, and in some cases had their identity documents altered. The inquiry concluded that such actions may constitute crimes against humanity under international law.

Human rights experts say accountability and the safe return of children remain critical priorities for the international community.
