Pyongyang (HRNW)- North Korea has rejected an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolution criticizing its nuclear weapons program, declaring that its status as a nuclear power is irreversible.
According to Reuters, Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, accused the IAEA of applying what she described as double standards by overlooking the nuclear activities of the United States and South Korea while criticizing North Korea.
Kim Yo Jong also pointed to South Korea’s plans to acquire nuclear-powered submarines, describing the move as part of what she called an unfair policy directed against North Korea.
North Korea’s Foreign Ministry separately rejected the IAEA resolution, asserting that the country’s nuclear capabilities and defense posture are irreversible and supported by its nuclear deterrent.
Meanwhile, North Korean state media reported that Kim Jong Un conducted a three-day tour of major arms manufacturing facilities this week, where he stressed the modernization of various areas of the country’s defense capabilities.
Analysts cited in the reports say North Korea is seeking to further modernize its military capabilities following a defense agreement with Russia last year. Military cooperation with Moscow and the reported participation of North Korean troops in the Ukraine war have also been identified as factors contributing to this effort.
Kim Jong Un also addressed a training session for propaganda officials in Pyongyang, calling for more creative and aggressive approaches to what he described as modern ideological warfare.
