Report Highlights Surge in Human Rights Violations Under Taliban Rule

Kabul (HRNW)- The Taliban regime’s authoritarian policies have pushed Afghanistan into a deep economic, social, and humanitarian crisis, according to a report by Afghan human rights organization Toladari. The report reveals a sharp rise in serious human rights violations, including atrocities against women and minorities.

According to the findings, there was a 40.4% increase last year in targeted killings, extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, and torture, with at least 611 individuals affected. In 2025, the rights of women were further curtailed through stricter authoritarian restrictions and coercive laws.

The report also states that Taliban courts have imposed physical and degrading punishments such as flogging, in clear violation of international law. Ethnic and religious minorities continue to face discrimination, being denied employment opportunities, economic participation, and access to public resources. The absence of independent human rights institutions and a functioning judiciary has further worsened the situation, leaving victims without avenues for justice.

Experts warn that Afghanistan is increasingly becoming a place where rule of law has been replaced by force, and tolerance has given way to repression, with governance practices contradicting international human rights standards and basic human values.
