GENEVA (HRNW): A United Nations investigative body has formally launched an inquiry into a devastating strike on a primary school that occurred during the first day of U.S. and Israeli military operations in Iran. Speaking to journalists in Geneva, Max du Plessis, a member of the UN Fact-Finding Mission, confirmed that the investigation is currently in its preliminary stages.
According to Iranian authorities, the school was hit by two consecutive missile strikes, resulting in the martyrdom of over 170 teachers and female students. While U.S. military investigators have acknowledged that the strike was likely carried out by American forces, the Pentagon emphasized that no final conclusions have been reached as the investigation remains ongoing and has recently been expanded.
Max du Plessis stated that credible evidence has been found to support the casualty figures reported by Iran, asserting that a thorough and independent investigation is essential given the scale of innocent civilian loss. He warned that if responsibility is officially traced back to the United States, this incident would rank among the worst instances of civilian casualties recorded during U.S. military operations in the Middle East.
