Peshawar (HRNW)- Heavy rains are forecast across various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today through August 20, raising concerns about urban flooding in major cities and landslides in mountainous areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, low-lying areas of Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar and Nowshera face a risk of urban flooding, while mountainous areas of the province could experience landslides.
Rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning is expected in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand and Mansehra. Similar weather is forecast for Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Hangu, Orakzai, Karak, Kurram and Kohat.
Heavy rain is also expected at some locations, while other districts are likely to remain hot and humid. The highest temperatures recorded yesterday included 41°C in Dera Ismail Khan, 40°C in Bannu, 38°C in Chitral and 24°C in Malam Jabba.
The Meteorological Department also reported 16 mm of rain in Kakul, 4 mm in Malam Jabba and 3 mm in Balakot.
