Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump and CNN senior White House correspondent Kristen Holmes exchanged heated remarks during a press conference at the White House.
The incident occurred during a ceremony honoring 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams, who reportedly saved a 10-year-old boy from dangerous waves at a California beach in July.
When Holmes attempted to ask Trump a question, the president stopped her and accused her of interrupting another reporter. Trump told Holmes to “shut up” and described her as “very rude.” After she identified herself as a CNN correspondent, Trump again criticized the network and accused it of reporting “fake news.”
Holmes later questioned Trump about remarks by Senator Jon Ossoff, who had criticized the president over his time with White House aide Natalie Harp and plans to construct a ballroom at the White House. Trump responded by criticizing Ossoff and then discussed the ballroom project.
The exchange prompted mixed reactions on social media, with some users criticizing Trump’s conduct toward the journalist while others questioned the reporter’s approach to questioning the president.
Tensions between Trump and CNN journalists have occurred previously, including confrontations with CNN correspondent Caitlin Collins during White House press events.
