Geneva (HRNW) — A new report released by the United Nations Human Rights Council investigation team says Syria remains at a critical stage in its political transition, urging international support and accountability for past abuses.
The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria reported that years of conflict have left deep scars, including allegations of extrajudicial killings, torture, enforced disappearances, and destruction of civilian homes. Investigators also noted that more than 1,400 civilians were reportedly killed in coastal regions during violent clashes in 2025, while other communities experienced mass displacement and property destruction.
The commission stressed that rebuilding public trust requires independent courts, security-sector reform, and accountability for war crimes committed by all sides during the conflict.
