Islamabad (HRNW) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly sent a response to opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s letter regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and new members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), according to sources.
Sources said Achakzai received the prime minister’s response, in which Shehbaz Sharif assured that the appointments would be made in accordance with the constitutional procedure.
Former opposition leader Omar Ayub has also reportedly written a letter concerning the appointment of the new CEC.
According to sources, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah and Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry met Mahmood Khan Achakzai and assured him that the prime minister would respond to his letter.
Achakzai is currently in Quetta and is expected to return to Islamabad within two to three days. Upon his arrival, he is expected to consult PTI leaders, including the party chairman and other opposition figures. He will also reportedly take Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas into confidence.
