Karachi (HRNW) — The Sindh government has decided to ensure that government employees retiring from January 1, 2027 receive their pension and basic financial dues on the same day as their retirement.
The decision was taken at an important meeting on pension and medical reimbursement chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah. The meeting was attended by the Accountant General Sindh, Secretary Finance, Secretary Services, Secretary Health and Secretary General Administration.
The Chief Secretary directed all provincial departments to clear pending pension bills within three months, stressing that employees should receive their pension and basic financial entitlements on the final day of their service.
Asif Hyder Shah said retired employees should not have to make repeated visits to government offices to obtain their pensions. He directed the authorities to establish an integrated system to ensure timely pension payments.
A inter-departmental task force, headed by the Secretary Services, will be established. It will include representatives from the Accountant General Sindh, Finance, Health, General Administration and other relevant departments.
The Chief Secretary also directed that amendments to existing rules be proposed where necessary to facilitate timely pension payments. He ordered that the final operational framework for pension payments be presented within one week.
The meeting also reviewed delays in medical reimbursement claims of government employees. Administrative obstacles, including incomplete documentation, e-verification and delays in issuing NACs, were identified.
The Chief Secretary said delays in medical claims were primarily an administrative issue rather than a problem of policy or funds. He directed officials to eliminate unnecessary paperwork and simplify the medical reimbursement process.
The Secretary General Administration was directed to conduct a joint review of the medical reimbursement procedure with the Accountant General Sindh, Finance, Services and other relevant departments.
The Chief Secretary stressed that the system for medical claims should be made simpler and faster for government employees and their families, and that employees should not face unnecessary administrative difficulties in obtaining pension and medical benefits.

Pension is a critical financial entitlement for retired government employees, many of whom depend on it for their daily living expenses after completing years of public service. Ensuring payment on the day of retirement could reduce financial uncertainty and protect retirees from prolonged bureaucratic delays. The effectiveness of the decision, however, will depend on transparent implementation and timely coordination among departments.
