FAO Calls for Greater Preparedness Against Climate-Driven Food Security Risks

Rome (HRNW) – On 3 July 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) renewed its call for stronger international cooperation to address climate-related threats to global food security.

FAO experts emphasized that changing weather patterns, including the possibility of a strong El Niño event, could significantly affect agricultural production, water availability, and rural livelihoods in many regions. The Organization urged governments to strengthen early warning systems, climate-resilient farming practices, and disaster preparedness to reduce risks to food supplies.

The agency stressed that coordinated action among governments, development partners, and local communities is essential to protect vulnerable populations from the growing impacts of climate change on agriculture and food systems.
