Pakistan’s Electric Vehicle Count Expected to Reach 2.2 Million by 2030

Islamabad (HRNW)- In view of the growing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan, the total number of electric vehicles across the country is expected to reach 2.2 million by 2030.

According to a private TV channel, an important briefing presented to the Senate Standing Committee on Industry and Production revealed that Pakistan’s electric vehicle policy is making steady progress. Under this strategy, a significant share of road traffic in the coming years is expected to consist of environmentally friendly electric vehicles.

The committee was informed that more than 12,800 electric vehicles and 160,000 electric motorcycles have already been manufactured locally, reflecting the rapid growth of Pakistan’s domestic EV industry.

To promote the sector, the government has allocated a Rs9 billion subsidy for the purchase of two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles. Under the scheme, buyers of electric motorcycles are eligible for a financial subsidy of up to Rs80,000 per motorcycle.

Economic experts believe the initiative will help reduce Pakistan’s fuel import bill while contributing significantly to lowering environmental pollution and promoting clean energy transportation.

They also noted that the subsidy program will make electric vehicles more affordable for low- and middle-income households, enabling more citizens to own environmentally friendly transportation.
