Istanbul (HRNW)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and Türkiye share a glorious history of brotherly relations, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed that the two countries will always stand by each other.
President Erdoğan formally welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Istanbul, where the leaders of the two countries held high-level talks on bilateral, regional, and international issues.
Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan-Türkiye relations are rooted in history and that both nations have consistently supported one another during difficult times.
He said there is a deep bond between the people of Pakistan and Türkiye, recalling the support extended by the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent during Türkiye’s War of Independence.
The Prime Minister added that Türkiye has always stood with Pakistan, whether during times of war or following natural disasters. He also reiterated Pakistan’s support for Türkiye’s position on the Cyprus issue.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed the Pakistani delegation and said the two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as important regional and global developments.
He emphasized that Pakistan and Türkiye will continue to stand together and expressed satisfaction with the growing pace of cooperation between the two countries. He also described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) as an important step for global peace.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace, where ministers and senior officials from both sides, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, were also present.
The meeting, held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reaffirmed the historic and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Türkiye. The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress in bilateral relations and discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, offshore and onshore oil and gas exploration, mining, minerals, and information technology.
Both leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to achieving the mutually agreed bilateral trade target of US$5 billion and exchanged views on key regional and international developments.
President Erdoğan appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, which resulted in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Erdoğan for Türkiye’s consistent support for Pakistan’s peace initiatives. Both leaders praised the close diplomatic coordination between the two countries during the peace process and stressed the importance of sustained efforts for lasting peace and stability in the region.
The two leaders also reiterated their unwavering support for each other’s core national interests and expressed satisfaction over the upcoming eighth meeting of the Pakistan-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC), scheduled to be held in Türkiye later this year.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended an official invitation to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to visit Pakistan.
