The World Health Organization has recognized nine Healthy City champions from across the Western Pacific Region at the 11th Global Conference of the Alliance for Healthy Cities in Sydney.

The recognition highlights city-level initiatives designed to improve health and wellbeing through policies and programmes that address the wider conditions in which people live, work and travel.

WHO said the Healthy Cities approach brings health considerations into areas such as urban planning, transport, environment, housing and community development.

The regional conference is bringing together city leaders, public-health officials and other partners to exchange experiences on building healthier and more resilient urban communities.
