The World Intellectual Property Organization is preparing to release the 2026 Global Innovation Index on Tuesday, 29 September, placing global innovation, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, semiconductors, advanced materials and clean energy at the centre of its annual assessment.
WIPO says the 2026 edition will examine the innovation performance of around 140 economies against a backdrop of rapid advances in deep science, uneven economic growth, fragile venture-capital markets and changing global economic relationships.
The organization has titled this year’s edition “Powering Entrepreneurs at the Frontier of Science.” The findings will be presented at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, followed by a panel discussion involving ministers, business leaders and innovation experts.
The release is expected to provide a new snapshot of how economies are developing innovation capabilities as technology and scientific research increasingly influence economic development.
