Lahore (HRNW)- Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Deputy Emir Liaqat Baloch has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to hold immediate talks with JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman and abolish the petroleum levy to provide relief to the public.
In a statement, Baloch described the current political situation as a serious crisis and said the problems facing the country were rooted in what he characterized as systemic failures.
He urged the prime minister to meet Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman immediately after returning to Pakistan and said the government should take concrete measures to address public concerns over fuel prices and the petroleum levy.
Baloch also warned that continued delays in meeting the party’s demands could lead to a “Super Long March” as well as a broader nationwide movement against the government.
The JI leader said the party’s protests were aimed at securing relief for citizens and reiterated its demand for the immediate abolition of the petroleum levy.
He further claimed that the political influence of the Zardari and Sharif families was declining, while presenting Jamaat-e-Islami as an alternative political option for citizens.
The remarks come amid Jamaat-e-Islami’s ongoing campaign against the petroleum levy and its negotiations with the government over measures intended to provide relief to the public.
