Abu Dhabi (HRNW)- Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have arrested 70 British citizens for sharing videos and images showing damage from Iranian drone and missile attacks, according to British media reports. Those detained include tourists, residents, and aircrew members. Some have been released on bail, but their passports have been confiscated to prevent them from leaving the country.
Under UAE law, sharing or even receiving sensitive content can be a criminal offense, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to 200,000 dirhams. Officials stated that these measures are being enforced to protect national security and sensitive information amid rising tensions with Iran in the region.
British media reports note that prior to the conflict, approximately 240,000 British citizens lived in Dubai, but many have returned to the UK since the escalation. Experts say these arrests demonstrate the Gulf countries’ strict enforcement of security laws and a zero-tolerance approach toward social media content during times of conflict.
