India and Japan Sign Over $10 Billion in Agreements to Expand Strategic Partnership

New Delhi (HRNW): India and Japan have announced a major expansion of their bilateral partnership, signing more than 120 agreements and investment initiatives worth over US$10 billion across key sectors, including artificial intelligence, defense, clean energy, advanced technology, economic security, and resilient supply chains.

According to reports, the agreements were concluded during the 16th India–Japan Annual Summit, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. During the meeting, Modi reportedly referred to the Japanese leader as his “younger sister,” a gesture widely interpreted as reflecting the close relationship and mutual trust between the two countries.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is visiting India on a three-day official trip. She reportedly paid tribute to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, describing him as her “elder brother,” and said she also considers Prime Minister Modi an elder brother.

The two leaders honored the legacy of Shinzo Abe and praised his vision for strengthening India-Japan relations, acknowledging his role in advancing cooperation between the two nations.

The newly signed agreements focus on collaboration in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, clean energy, critical minerals, defense cooperation, economic security, maritime connectivity, and joint strategic initiatives in the Indo-Pacific region.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation as trusted partners in response to evolving global geopolitical and economic challenges.

Analysts believe the agreements, valued at more than US$10 billion, could significantly strengthen economic ties between India and Japan while contributing to a new geo-economic and strategic balance in Asia. They also note that the cordial relationship between Prime Ministers Modi and Takaichi may further enhance long-term bilateral cooperation.
